Season Opener: "From Russia With Love"

Musica Viva proudly opens its 15th concert season of chamber music with a program featuring Russian music for piano and strings.
Music includes
  • Arensky's Piano Trio in D-minor
  • Glinka's Grand Sextet in Eb Major for piano, string quartet and bass
  • Nikolai Kapustin's fantastic Piano Trio, op. 86, with its unique flavor of classical and jazz elements.
Avanti Ensemble members David Ehrlich, violin, Ben Wyatt, cello, and Teresa Ehrlich, piano, are joined by Wanchi Huang, violin, Amadi Azikiwe, viola, and Craig Butterfield, bass.
 
"An American Premiere: Romantic Masterpieces of Mendelssohn and Dvorak"

This concert will feature the American premiere of Mendelssohn's beloved Octet for Strings arranged by Mendelssohn himself for piano duet and string quartet. Also featured will be Dvorak's Piano Quintet, and music for piano 4-hands.
Musica Viva welcomes returning pianists Sivan Silberg and Gil Garburg from Germany; Giora Schmidt and David Ehrlich, violin; Katherine Murdock, viola, and Ben Wyatt, cello.
 
"Some Enchanted Evening: Music for Voice, Strings and Piano"

This concert will enchant and delight our audience with music that features the beauty of the voice. Program includes Mozart's "Exsultate Jubilate" arranged for string quartet and soprano, Schubert's Salve Regina, Osvaldo Golijov's "Lua Descolorida" for soprano and string quartet, selections from Dvorak's Cypresses for string quartet, and famous opera arias and duets.

Program includes Dvorak 'Dumky' Piano Trio, Kenji Bunch Concerto for Piano Trio and Percussion.
Avanti Ensemble members David Ehrlich, violin; Ben Wyatt, cello, and Teresa Ehrlich, piano, are joined by Annie Stevens and Andrea Venet, the percussion duo "Escape Ten."
 
The Next Generation: Aeolus Quartet

The season finale will present the Aeolus Quartet for the first time on the series. The Aeolus Quartet are Grand Prize winners of the 2011 Plowman Chamber Music Competition and 2011 Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition. They were also awarded First Prize for Strings at the 2009 Coleman International Chamber Music Competition, Silver Medal at the 2011 Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition, and Bronze Medal at the 2010 International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition in New England.
The 16th Annual Austin Critics' Table named the Aeolus Quartet their 2010-2011 "Best Ensemble."
Aeolus Quartet is the Graduate Resident String Quartet at the Juilliard School.
